VFX Producer
The VFX Producer is the head of department for VFX on the production side. Distinct from the VFX Supervisor (who handles the creative + technical direction), the VFX Producer handles planning + budgeting + vendor management + schedule coordination.
What the role does
- Budgets the VFX work across the production
- Selects + manages VFX vendors — house deals, contracts, schedules
- Coordinates VFX schedule with Line Producer and the broader post-production schedule
- Supervises VFX Coordinator and the production-side VFX team
- Liaises with VFX Supervisor on creative direction integration
Position
Reports to Line Producer. Coordinates with VFX Supervisor (separate creative authority).
Career progression
SI Competency Framework Level 5 — HoD. Often reached laterally from line-production or post-supervisor backgrounds.
