Director
The Director is the principal creative author of the production — shaping every element from script through performance, visual approach, sound, and edit. Above-the-Line creative role; not part of the SI Competency Framework's BTL grades.
What the role does
- Translates the script into a visualised production in collaboration with Director of Photography (DoP / DP) + Production Designer
- Directs cast performance during the shoot
- Coordinates with 1st Assistant Director (1st AD) on shoot-day execution
- Works with Editor on the cut through to picture lock
- Liaises with Composer on score + Re-recording Mixer on final mix
- Carries creative responsibility for the finished film
Position
Reports to producer on creative matters. Carries final creative authority within the producer-agreed brief.
