Stunt Coordinator
The Stunt Coordinator is the head of department for Stunts. Designs action sequences in collaboration with the director, supervises the Stunt Performer team, and carries safety + risk-assessment responsibility for every stunt on the production.
What the role does
- Designs action sequences in collaboration with the director
- Risk-assesses every stunt — safety planning, contingencies
- Coordinates with 1st Assistant Director (1st AD) on shoot-day stunt scheduling
- Supervises Stunt Performer team
- Liaises with H&S officer + insurance broker on stunt risk
- Often performs stunt doubling for principal cast on demanding sequences
Position
Reports to director + producer. Carries safety + insurance accountability for stunt work.
Career progression
Long-arc specialist career — typically requires Equity Stunt Register listing or equivalent industry-recognised qualification.
