Key Grip

The Key Grip is the head of department for Grip — leading the team that handles camera supports, dollies, cranes, and all the rigging that enables camera movement.

What the role does

• Designs camera support setups for each shot
• Operates dollies + cranes on set
• Coordinates with Director of Photography (DoP / DP) + camera team on camera movement
• Leads Grip rigging for complex camera setups
• Supervises Best Boy Grip, Grip / Dolly Grip, Crane Technician / Remote Head Technician, Trainee Grip

Position

Reports to Director of Photography (DoP / DP) operationally. Supervises Grip team.
