Clapper Loader (2nd AC)
The Clapper Loader (2nd AC — 2nd Assistant Camera) is the junior operational role in the Camera team. Slates each take, manages camera media, marks actor positions, runs camera reports.
What the role does
- Slates each take — the clapperboard with scene + take + roll info
- Loads + manages camera media (cards on digital, mags on film)
- Marks actors — placing marks on the floor for blocking continuity
- Maintains camera reports — every take logged with technical metadata
- Coordinates with Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) on media handoff
Position
Reports to Focus Puller (1st AC). Supervises Camera Trainee.
Career progression
Path: Camera Trainee → Clapper Loader → Focus Puller (1st AC) → Camera Operator → Director of Photography (DoP / DP).
