Construction Coordinator
The Construction Coordinator is the head of department for Construction. Runs the build operation from the Art Director's drawings through to delivered set, coordinating the trades within Construction — carpentry, painting, plastering, rigging.
What the role does
- Translates drawings into build packages for each trade
- Manages the Construction schedule + build sequencing
- Coordinates trade leads — HoD Carpenter, HoD Painter, HoD Plasterer, HoD Rigger
- Manages Construction budget + materials
- Liaises with Art Director on design + Construction integration
- Oversees Construction Manager on operational execution
Position
Reports to Art Director / Production Designer. Supervises the trade HoDs + Construction Manager.
Career progression
SI Competency Framework Level 5 — HoD. Career path typically through one of the trade HoDs (Carpenter / Painter / Plasterer / Rigger) into the coordinating role.
Working pattern + guild
Freelance, prep + shoot (build phase concentrated in prep). Trade-specific guild + union representation.
