Director of Photography (DoP / DP)
The Director of Photography (DoP or DP, sometimes "Cinematographer") is the head of the Camera and Lighting departments. Authors the production's visual language — camera, lighting, lens, look — in collaboration with the director. Distinct from the camera operator (who operates the camera) and the gaffer (who runs the lighting team).
Notably not part of the Screen Ireland Competency Framework — the Framework covers Below-the-Line crew departments; the DoP sits in the cluster of Above-the-Line creative roles that are tracked separately via the SI Priority Areas list.
